Devastating News on Cargo Plane Accident: Fatalities Climbs to 13

The number of fatalities resulting from the UPS cargo plane which ignited and crashed has now climbed to 13, per latest reports.

Mayor's Statement

“On my way to the Teamsters’ memorial service, I received word of a 13th person that lost their life as a consequence of the UPS flight 2976 crash,” expressed the city mayor in a social media post. “My heart are with the loved ones, companions and peers of all who were killed in this week’s calamity. We will get through this as one.”

Victims Named

A release from the carrier identified the flight crew aboard the aircraft as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts reach out to each employee who has been touched and everyone in our Louisville region – supporting you and guaranteeing you get the attention and resources you need is our main concern,” the company’s message stated.

Inquiry Findings

Federal officials disclosed that the jet’s wing caught fire and an engine detached just after takeoff from the aviation hub, resulting in the aircraft to crash and erupt into a blaze.

The National Transportation Safety Board announced it is investigating the plane’s service record, which was in the state for repairs several weeks before the incident.

Aircraft information showed the aircraft was on the ground in that location from the start of last month to last week.

“We are aware that this plane was there in that city,” remarked an investigator on Thursday, without providing a precise period. “We will review each aspect of maintenance that was performed, including the San Antonio period, straight to the time of the journey.”

Retrieval of Vital Items

The audio device and data recorder were recovered, and the motor was discovered on the tarmac.

The recorders – referred to as flight recorders – were designed to endure collision damage and extreme heat from infernos, and they appeared to be undamaged when located among the wreckage. Authorities intend to examining recordings from the recorders.

Aircraft’s final data recordings showed an altitude of 475 feet and a velocity of that speed before the crash.

Repair Background

According to FAA records from 18 September, a fissure on a component in the tank area needed maintenance.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which indicated it provides aircraft servicing for the company’s jet and runs a service location in that city, chose not to comment, but said it would cooperate fully when investigators approached it.

Activities Restart

At the same time, UPS Worldport activities restarted that evening with its express or evening procedure, spokesperson the company official said. Each of the three runways at the aviation hub were likewise open again.

The UPS package handling facility in the city is the company’s biggest. The hub engages more than a large number of workers in the region, manages three hundred trips per day and organizes in excess of a huge volume of items an hour.

Community Reaction

A memorial was conducted on the night of 6 November by the local labor union, which represents employees at the Louisville airport, the firm’s biggest air cargo hub.

Teamsters Local 89, which represents employees, commenced the gathering with a period of reflection at the evening hour, the approximate time of the crash previously.

“This event was so abrupt, so unforeseen,” the official told the assembly of attendees. “No one had a chance to say goodbye to any of those who we have lost.”
